Apitherapy: The Healing Properties of Products Straight from the Hive

Discover the power of the natural bee pharmacy and learn how the scientifically documented properties of honey, propolis, and venom can support your body in the fight against lifestyle diseases.

Apitherapy is a branch of natural medicine that uses products produced by bees for the prevention and treatment of a wide spectrum of ailments. These products are not merely dietary supplements but complex biologically active substances containing enzymes, hormones, and trace elements essential for the proper functioning of the body.

1. Honey – The “Sweet Medicine” and Elixir of Energy

Bee honey is a product of the living “laboratory” of flowers and bees, containing about 60–80 different medicinal substances.

Technical parameters and properties:

  • Energy value: 100 g of honey provides an average of 315 kcal.
  • Composition: 65–80% glucose and fructose, 13–20% water, and a wealth of minerals (Fe, Cu, Mn, K, Ca, P).
  • Key enzyme: Invertase, which regulates metabolism in the body.

Medical applications:

  • Circulatory system: Regular consumption improves cardiac muscle tone and helps in the treatment of hypertension.
  • Digestive system: Honey normalizes stomach acid levels, helps with gastric and duodenal ulcers, and has a mild laxative effect.
  • Wound healing: Due to its antiseptic properties, it accelerates tissue regeneration in burns and trophic ulcers.

Usage instructions:

  1. Dosage: For general health, 30–40 g per day dissolved in water (better absorption) is recommended. For neuroses, the dose can be 100–120 g per day for 1–2 months.
  2. Temperature: Never heat honey above 40–50°C, as it loses its enzymatic and bactericidal properties.
  3. Storage: In a dry, ventilated place, at a temperature of about 10°C and humidity below 60–70%.

2. Propolis – Natural Antibiotic

Propolis (bee glue) is a resinous substance with strong bactericidal, antiviral, and anesthetic properties, which is 5 times stronger than novocaine.

Methods for preparing homemade preparations:

  • Alcohol concentrate: Pour 0.5 l of spirit (96%) over 150 g of crushed propolis. Leave for at least 5 days in a dark place, shaking daily for 10–15 minutes. Filter through gauze.
  • Propolis ointment (10%): Dissolve 10 g of propolis in 100 g of fat (e.g., unsalted butter, petroleum jelly) heated to 70–80°C in a water bath until a uniform mass is obtained.

Indications: Angina, asthma, gastritis, prostatitis, hard-to-heal wounds, and skin fungal infections.

3. Bee Pollen and Bee Bread – Vitamin Bomb

Pollen contains from 7 to 36% protein (comparable to milk protein) and a complex of vitamins B, C, E, and P (rutin). 100 g of pollen is calorically equivalent to 0.5 kg of beef.

Pollen fermentation method (homemade bee bread):

  1. Dissolve 150 g of honey in 0.25 l of water (max temp 40°C).
  2. Add 1 kg of pollen and mix thoroughly.
  3. Leave in a warm place (35–40°C) for 4–6 days until lactic acid fermentation begins.
  4. Store in the refrigerator. This product is much more easily absorbed than raw pollen.

4. Bee Venom (Apitoxin) – Therapy at the Tip of the Sting

Bee venom is a colorless liquid with a density of 1.333, containing peptides such as melittin and apamin, which stimulate the heart and adrenal glands.

Parameters and treatment regimen:

  • Treatment involves controlled stings to specific areas (outer parts of the arms and thighs).
  • Day 1: 1 sting.
  • Day 2: 2 stings… and so on, up to day 10 (a total of 55 stings in the first series).
  • After a break, stings are performed 3 times a week, 3 stings each time.
  • Contraindications: Kidney, liver, pancreatic diseases, diabetes, pregnancy, and individual intolerance.

5. Royal Jelly – The Royal Food

A highly nutritious secretion of young bees, containing over 20 amino acids and hormones that stimulate the sex glands.

Application: Treatment of anemia, child failure to thrive, exhaustion states, and Addison’s disease. The recommended dose is 20 mg sublingually 3 times a day for 10–20 days.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Apitherapy should be conducted under medical supervision due to the risk of severe allergic reactions and the high biological activity of the products. In case of a sting, pain and swelling can be reduced by applying fresh dandelion juice, onion, or ice.
